I initially came to The Point Youth Centre as a service user when I was about 14 years old. From here I was given the opportunity to volunteer at HYPE and HYPElet, in a supporting role, and that was when I realised youth work was the career path for me.
After completing 3 years of health and social care at college, I was able to offer a lot more time, commitment and dedication to youth work, while putting knowledge into practice.
While working part time for Fleet Phoenix, I was also working as a maternity support worker and both jobs were careers I wanted to explore. It was when I was offered the opportunity to complete my level 1 and 2 in youth work and complete a youth work apprenticeship that I decided that youth work was going to be my main focus and an opportunity that I could not turn down. Midwifery is now something I would like to pick back up at a later date.
Throughout my time with Fleet Phoenix I have undertaken some amazing training courses, including drug and alcohol awareness, sexual health, mental health awareness, child protection, dealing with challenging behaviour and housing and benefit support, to name but a few.
I now work as a full time member of the team, working alongside a highly qualified, enthusiastic and dedicated team. I work at a number of the projects that Fleet Phoenix run throughout the week, including FREE, TLC, Walk It and Open Door.
